WEIGHBRIDGE VS WEIGHT TAPE
A weight tape only measures the girth line, the circumference around the barrel. It can't see height, breed, body type, age, or the difference between muscle and fat. That is why tapes can be out by around 20 percent, sometimes 50 to 100kg or more, and they usually underestimate, especially on bigger horses. In one published study a 17.2hh mare read 138kg lighter on a tape than on the weighbridge. A weighbridge measures actual weight. That's the difference between guessing and managing.
